BidMyJobvs MyBuilder, Checkatrade, Airtasker & Bark
Updated October 2026
There are plenty of ways to find someone for a job in the UK. Most of them make their money by charging the tradesperson for leads, or by taking a fee from the job itself. BidMyJobcharges nobody: you post a job free, local people bid, and you pay whoever you pick directly. Here is how the best-known sites compare — including where they do things we don't.

Common questions
Is BidMyJob a free alternative to Airtasker in the UK?
Yes. Like Airtasker, you post a task and local people offer to do it. Unlike Airtasker, BidMyJob charges no booking fee and takes no cut from the helper — you agree a price and pay them directly. The trade-off is that BidMyJob does not hold your payment, so you pay when the job is done.
How is BidMyJob different from MyBuilder or Checkatrade?
MyBuilder and Checkatrade are built around tradespeople, who pay the site to win work. BidMyJob charges nobody, and it is open to anyone who can do the job — so as well as trades you will find people happy to do a tip run, deliver leaflets, mow a lawn or help an elderly neighbour. For larger building work where you need vetted, qualified trades, those sites have checks that BidMyJob does not.
Why don't tradespeople pay on BidMyJob?
Lead fees push prices up: a tradesperson who pays to quote has to recover it from the jobs they win. BidMyJob is funded by local business sponsors instead, so the full price goes to the person doing the work.
What are BidMyJob's weaknesses?
It is new and smaller, so some areas have few helpers yet — it is busiest around Burnham-on-Sea and the Somerset coast. It does not vet qualifications or insurance, and it does not hold payments. Check reviews and profiles, ask for proof of insurance for bigger jobs, and pay on completion.
